General Educational Development

I. Age

Applicants under the age of nineteen and any applicant who has been enrolled in high school during the current school year must complete an age waiver form available through the county school superintendent. Applicants must be at least seventeen years of age and withdrawn from high school to be considered for testing. If you are under nineteen years of age, you must provide a copy of your birth certificate for our fields when you return your application.

II. Identification

All applicants must present two forms of identification on the day of testing as follows: (1) Photo identification that shows birth date, address, and signature (examples: driver's license, passport, or state issue identification available at the driver's license center in your county).(2) An additional form of ID such as a social security card, voter's registration card, birth certificate, or military card.

III. Testing Fee

The fee for the complete battery of the GED Test is $75.00 or $15.00 per subject for partial testing. Make your check payable to: TTC-Pulaski (ALL TEST FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE) Advanced application is required and must be accompanied by the correct testing fee and copy of your photo ID. In the course of on line applications fees must be mailed to TTC and identification must be presented on the day of testing. Completed applications will be processed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

IV. Previous Test Scores

If you have taken the GED Test or portions of the Test at a different center, please request that your scores be forwarded to the GED Testing, TTC-Pulaski. These scores must be received directly from the prior test center, a personal copy of your test scores will not be accepted.

V. GED Test Battery

The complete GED Test consists of five subjects: Writing, Social Studies, Natural Science, Interpreting Literature and The Arts, and Mathematics. Each section is timed.

VI. Scores Required For Passing

A minimum of 410 points must be scored on each of the five tests and a total score of 450 or more cumulative points must be earned on the five tests to be eligible for a high school equivalency diploma in Tennessee. Grades cannot be reported over the phone. Scores will be mailed to you within two weeks after you complete testing. If you pass, your scores will be mailed to the Adult & Community Education Office in Nashville. Your diploma will be mailed directly to you within 4 to 6 weeks. An applicant may retest after a 30-day waiting period.

VII. GED Preparation

GED Test Battery Description

The Tests of General Educational Development (GED Tests) consist of five multiple choice tests which measure achievement in subject areas generally associated with a high school program of study. The five tests and their relative content emphases are:

1. Language Arts, Reading: Literary Text (75%), Notification Test (25%).
2. Language Arts, Writing: Part I, Sentence Structure (30%), Usage (30%), Mechanics (25%) and Organization (15%). Part II, Essay (36% of Writing Test composite score).
3. Mathematics: Algebra (20-30%), Measurement and Geometry (20-30%) Data Analysis and Statistics (20-30%), and Number Operations (20-30%).
4. Science: Life Sciences (Biology, Health) 45%, Physical Sciences (Physics, Chemistry) 35%, Earth and Space Science 20.
5. Social Studies: U.S. History (25%), Economics (20%), Civics and Government (25%). Geography (15%), World History (15%).

The tests are taken by people who have not graduated from High School and who wish to demonstrate a level of educational achievement sufficient to earn a high school credential. The tests are administered regularly at more than 3,000 locations throughout the U.S. and Canada.
